Spruce Mountain is a mesa in Douglas County just north of Palmer Lake. There are number of trails you can take from the trail head located at a parking lot off the Spruce Mountain Road. The most direct trail climbs up for about 1.2 miles through series of switchbacks. Once you reach the upper loop you can enjoy leisurely hike on the flat top. The loop is 2.3 miles long, traversing through a mix of forest and meadows with a rewarding view of Pikes Peak's north face at the end. Spruce Mountain is a fairly easy hike but is definitely worth it. Once you are in the area check out other trails in the Greenland Open Space.
Length: 5.5 miles loop
Directions: Drive north on I-25, take exit 163 and drive west on County Line Rd. Right after crossing railroad tracks turn right on Spruce Mountain Rd. Drive for 3.5 miles and then park at trail head on your left.
