Palmer Park is a very popular city park. Bordered from all sides by city sprawl
it offers a unique place of wilderness in the middle of the city. Many unique
rock formations can be found throughout the park. Number of trails used by
hikers, bikers and horse riders crisscrosses the area. There is a large
playground, beach volleyball and baseball field located by Academy and Maizeland
roads. Number of pullouts offers many opportunities for picnicking.
Directions: From I-25 take exit 145 to E Filmore St. Keep driving east and after crossing Union the road becomes N Circle Dr. Turn left on Maizeland Rd and continue to park entrance on the left.
Trails:
Templeton Trail: This trails is an advanced trail
that circles around northern section of Palmer Park. On this trail you will
pass a number of interesting rock formations, walk under pine trees in the
northern section and enjoy great view of Pikes Peak and most of the city. One
possible trailhed is at Yucca flats but this trail can be access from many
other parts of the park
