Paint Mines Interpretive Park

Paint Mines Interpretive Park is located about 30 miles east of Colorado Springs by the town of Calhan. The park's landscape is a combination of prairie and badlands with colorful hoodoos being the main draw.

There are two connected easy loop trails that can be combined into a single hike. The northern and eastern part of the park is mostly rolling prairie with majority of the clay rock formations being located in the south. The trails are fairly easy with a few benches provided to sit down and enjoy the view.

There are two main trailheads with parking and a restroom at the main entrance.

Distance: Northern Loop - 1.5 miles, Southern Loop - 2 miles

Hours: Dawn to dusk.

Directions: Take US-24 east from Colorado Springs. Turn right on Yoder street in Calhan. Afer 0.6 miles turn left on Paint Mine Road. The main entrance parking lot will be on your left after about 1.4 miles.
